Child and adolescent psychiatrist
Originally German, I studied medicine and Psychiatry in France and worked as Child and Adolescent Psychiatry consultant in a French hospital for 20 years. I directed a day care centre for autistic children and attachment disorder there, and was in charge of a generic CAMHS team and a paediatric liaison team. I was also trained in interpersonal psychotherapy, systemic family therapy and hypnotherapy in France. Since 2015, I moved to the UK where I have been sharing my working time between various NHS teams (neurodevelopmental, eating disorder and adolescent crisis teams) and private practice.

My personal statement
My approach of my young patients is a quite holistic and integrative one: I have a good knowledge and experience of general child and adolescent psychiatry ( ADHD, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, phobia, anxiety, depression in children and adolescents, psychosis, eating disorders…) but also an insight on family interactions and how each event in the family and the child interferes with the balance and well-being of everyone in the family. My more recent interest in hypnotherapy and mindfulness has also given me the opportunity to realise how much one can help people in mobilising their unconscious resources with simple relaxing techniques. I prescribe medication only when it seems absolutely necessary, but always try to help the person and his or her family to sort out their special needs and personality traits and learn how to deal with it in the most beneficial way. I try to be as creative as possible for everyone to find his unique way to improve his mental health and enhance his well-being. Sometimes, the assessment phase is long and complicated, but it is often an essential one for the therapeutic process of the patient, so that he can get to know himself as completely as possible. I also liaise with schools and teaching staff if this is wished by the patient and his family and work in a network with other health care professionals and therapists.
